Student Responsibilities Class Blogs Grades- Engrade AR books/ Reading requirements Writing Timeline each week Agendas What can you do at home to help your child? Parent/student resources Think Central IXL Edmodo Math games (handout)

3 Student Responsibilities
Students should ALWAYS enter and leave the classroom with EVERYTHING they need for the day! When they come in: Homework (HW) should be complete Agendas should be signed by a parent or guardian each night indicating the work is complete. PLEASE DO NOT JUST SIGN… CHCEK TO SEE THAT THE WORK HAS BEEN COMPLETED. If for whatever reason, the agenda is not filled out, each teacher’s class blog has the updated HW each week under the HW tab. If it is Thursday, Wednesday folders should be signed, empty, and ready to be handed back in

4 Classroom Blogs Each teacher has a class blog. Soon, these blogs will be linked to the school website. For now, if you do not have your teacher’s blog site, let her know.

5 Engrade Please check Engrade AT LEAST once per week. Monday is a good day to do this as all grades from the week before should be in already  An “M” indicates the child did not hand in the assignment. A blank space may mean the grade has not yet been entered or the child was absent and we are waiting to get their grade into the system.

6 AR books/ Reading requirements
Students are required to read 1 book per week. The book they choose should be on their level. They are given their level by their teacher based on previous AR tests. Book requirements: Must be between pages Must be an AR book Must be on the child’s level Must be read and the child needs to be2 ready to test by Monday

7 Weekly Writing Timeline
On 5 day weeks, students have a writing assignment in class as classwork. The prompt changes each week, but the timeline remains the same: Monday- Writing is introduced Tuesday- Students create an E-Plan Wednesday- Students write a rough draft Thursday- Students Peer edit another child’s writing from class By Monday of the following week, the Final draft, highlighted for the writing focus that week, is due.

8 Agendas Ben Gamla Charter School
Students are to fill out their agendas each day. They are given time to do this every morning. Parents need to check that homework listed in the agendas is completed each night and initial or sign the bottom. The teacher will check the agendas each day, so notes and messages are welcome in the agendas. Ben Gamla Charter School

9 Where we need your help…
Across grade 5: MANY students do not know their multiplication facts. 1 book per week is not being read. Students are very tired and say they are going to bed very late. Tardiness: this sets your child up to feel behind throughout the day.

10 What can you do at home to help your child?

11 Websites IXL Spelling City Think Central Math Playground

I check the agendas daily. Make sure you are checking it daily as well as I may be writing notes to you  Wednesday Folders will be sent home weekly with your child.
