Settlements Definition: a settlement is any place where people live together. It could be a city (Saint John), a village (Sussex Corner) or a hamlet (Norton)

Situation factors The transformation (over time) of a settlement into a city depends on situation factors. A settlement needs a reason or function for it’s existance in order to survive. Commercial centres – Where people can buy and sell products. Industrials centres – Where products are manufactured in factories. Ports – Where products are imported from or exported to other countries. Vacation destination – Where people go on vacation or to relax.
