Settlements Definition: a settlement is any place where people live together. It could be a city (Saint John), a village (Sussex Corner) or a hamlet (Norton)

There are settlements in urban and rural areas www.harcourtschool.com www.etrippers.com Urban areas= cities and towns Rural areas = villages, in the country

How do people choose a spot to settle? The site of a settlement is chosen because of natural advantages.

Situation factors The transformation (over time) of a settlement into a city depends on situation factors. A settlement needs a reason or function for it’s existance in order to survive. Commercial centres – Where people can buy and sell products. Industrials centres – Where products are manufactured in factories. Ports – Where products are imported from or exported to other countries. Vacation destination – Where people go on vacation or to relax.

Planned cities
