KNOWLEDGE Presentation to Congress March 2013

Why Knowledge? ‘To promote and develop for the public benefit the art and science of purchasing and supply and to encourage the promotion and development of improved methods of purchasing and supply in all organisations’. ‘To promote and maintain for the benefit of the public high standards of professional skill, ability and integrity among those engaged in purchasing an supply’. Knowledge is a vital part of our membership proposition Improve Tools Templates Guides Case studies Inform Category expertise Market trends/indexes Benchmarking Insight Emerging issues Latest thinking Practical research & surveys

Knowledge Vision – ‘CIPS First’ To be the primary reference point for procurement and supply knowledge, acting as a knowledge hub for the profession DN Strategic Plan 2014-2017 dated 13th June 2012 Signposting, best aggregator, CIPS should be a Knowledge hub Leverage CIPS networks…..don't create but build an ecosystem Must be a global solution and resect IP ownership Knowledge must drive products and be an input to syllabus Leverage CIPS networks…..don't create but build an ecosystem

CIPS Added Value Given the strategic direction to harvest knowledge from our networks and other public domain sources CIPS added value must be: Quality assurance Organised and accessible Current and relevant at multiple levels

Knowledge Hub – current position Key concepts and white papers held on CIPS Intelligence Tools, Templates other resources held on CIPS.org No one-stop shop for accessing all Knowledge Poor search function on the site, contributes to user frustration

What’s achievable Create a structured intuitive area of the site that holds all our procurement and supply chain materials / resources Construct clear topic areas via Taxonomy Categorise existing content under Taxonomy headings Feed in all related content to these revised categories Generate sponsorship for knowledge topics Encourage member and network interaction Tie in social media to new topics / categories Key concepts and white papers held on CIPS Intelligence Tools, Templates other resources held on CIPS.org No one-stop shop for accessing all Knowledge Poor search function on the site, contributes to user frustration

How will it look?

How will it look?

How will it work? Use best in class examples - CIPD Introduce ‘Mega nav’ that plays host to newly created content ‘Tag’ up all pages so they sit under defined topic area Feed in all content based on Taxonomy tagging Allow users to search by any topic via an A-Z Engage with B 2 B Marketing to generate sponsored content Regularly refresh content and promote to users based on their interests

So, over to you … What should our top 3 deliverables from the Knowledge theme be? How do we measure success? This is very much an outsourced and volunteer based approach to knowledge harvesting – what are the main risks and how do we mitigate them? What should our taxonomy look like and how do we decide where our priorities are?
