Overall planning First major milestone: TP in autumn 2014 Conceptual design, studies on materials, technologies First major milestone: TP in autumn 2014 Describe a mechanics concept (consistent with the proposed detector layout!), with detector modules, support and cooling structures, services arrangements. Also initial plans on how the detector can be constructed, assembled, tested and commissioned. , cooling D. Abbaneo Upgrade Phase II Mechanics, 21 March 2013, indico: 240514 Antti Onnela, CERN

Collaboration between design teams, meetings Until the upgrade project has chosen between the proposed, different Tracker layout concepts, the mechanics design work needs to continue on all of them. Mechanics design teams should collaborate to: Identify and share common topics (e.g. choice of adhesives, cooling pipe material and connection techniques) Allow for cross-checks between designs Avoid duplication of work Avoid leaving topics completely or poorly covered. Collaboration between the design teams: Use Web-accessible data storages Common ones: https://espace.cern.ch/Tracker-Upgrade/SitePages/Home.aspx and EDMS (both need a brush-up!) + Storages maintained by each design team Hold Phase 2 Mechanics meetings every ~2 months. See next slide for 2013 CMS calendar. Hold a Review on the Phase 2 Mechanics in summer-autumn 2013. And of course email and phone.
