Using reflexive verbs in sentences VC2 Capítulo 3-1

Reflexive verbs Look at the following INFINITIVE verbs. lavarse ducharse afeitarse What is different? There is a “se” attached to the end of the verb! A Maribel le gusta secarse el pelo con la secadora del pelo.

So, what does the “se” mean? The “se” makes the verb reflexive. That means that the subject is doing the action to him/herself. In other words, the action reflects back on the doer. Él se afeita. He shaves himself. Ella se lava la cara. She washes her (own) face. Sarita se maquilla. Sarita puts makeup on (herself).

Using these verbs in sentences The “se” changes depending on the subject of the sentences. Look at these examples: Nosotros nos lavamos el pelo. Yo me despierto a las seis. Tú te lavas los dientes con la pasta Colgate. What do you notice here? Can you explain in your own words?

Putting it all together Take the “se” off of the end of the verb. Based on the subject, conjugate the verb as you normally would. Put the “se” in front of the verb and change it based on the subject. lavarse => lavar yo lavo tú lavas él/ella lava nosotros lavamos vosotros laváis ellos lavan ellas me te se nos os se
