The Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore and then run? Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugar over – Like a syrupy sweet? Maybe it just sags Like a heavy load. Or does it explode?

Deferred Adjective postponed or delayed Verb - Past tense to put off action until a future, indefinite time

Langston’s Dream Deferred? In Langston Hughes’ time period 1902 -1967, life was more difficult for people of color than it is today. Mr. Hughes had many dreams that were available to white men but not to him.

What are YOUR Dreams? Do you have a dream that you would like to accomplish in your lifetime? What is it? Do you think that it is available to you if you want to grasp at it? Do you believe that you can get it if you work hard enough? What can or will you do now to insure that you can achieve your dream?
