The Elements of Design

The elements of design are the tools of design. They are HANDS-ON and can be manipulated. They include: Texture Space Color Shape Line

Texture Texture - the way something looks or feels. It provides variety and interest in a room, and can create a mood.

Texture Tactile (to the touch) Visual (an illusion)

Texture Soft – creates a feeling of comfort and luxury, and is considered more formal

Texture Rough– create a casual, relaxed feeling (less formal) and makes colors look darker and less intense

Texture Smooth– give a clean modern feel

Texture Bulky – adds size and warmth

Texture Sheer – provides softness

Shiny – provides emphasis, excitement, reflective Texture
