WHO IS BETTER AT ESTIMATING THE UNKNOWN MALES OR FEMALES?

QUESTION WHO IS BETTER AT ESTIMATING THE UNKNOWN, MALES OR FEMALES?

PURPOSE THE PURPOSE OF MY INVESTIGATION IS TO DETERMINE WHO IS BETTER AT ESTIMATING THE UNKOWN, MALES OR FEMALES. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW BECAUSE NO ONE KNOWS WHO’S BETTER ESTIMATING THE UNKOWN. YOU DON’T KNOW IF A MALE GETS A CLOSE ANSWER OR IF A FEMALE GETS CLOSER TO THE ANSWER .

HYPOTHESIS I HYPOTHESIS THAT MALES WILL BE BETTER THEN FEMALES AT ESTIMATING THE UNKOWN. I BELIEVE THIS BECAUSE MALES THINK ABOUT THEIR ANSWER MORE THEN ONCE.

PROCEDURE

MATERIALS CLEAR JAR COINS PAPER PENCIL

VARIABLES MANIPULATETED: MALES OR FEMALES RESPONDING: ESTIMATE OF ITEMS IN THE CONTAINER

DIRECTIONS 1 GATHER MATERALS. 2 COUNT THE COINS. RECORD. 3 FILL CLEAR JAR WITH COINS. 4 ASK A MALE TO ESTIMATE HOW MANY COINS ARE IN THE CLEAR JAR. RECORD. 5 REPEAT STEP 4 WITH 4 MORE MALES 6 REPEAT STEP 4 WITH 5 FEMALES. 7 REPEAT STEPS 2-6 FOR FOUR MORE TRILS 8 CALCULATE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACTUAL NUMBER OF COINS AND ESTIMATES.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ESTIMATE AND ACTUAL NUMBER OF CUBES DATA CHART DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ESTIMATE AND ACTUAL NUMBER OF CUBES   TRIAL 1 AVERAGE MALES 36.14 FEMALES 39.57

GRAPH

Conclusion My hypothesis was right because the boys got 39.57 and the girls got 39.57. The girls guessed high numbers when they need to guess lower numbers, but the boys guessed low close numbers to the answer. That’s how my hypothesis was right.
