The Facts Center for a New American Dream. © New American Dream. Bell Ringer The average American child today is exposed to an estimated 40,000 television commercials a year — over 100 a day. More than 10 percent of 12- to 13-year-olds admitted to asking their parents more than 50 times for products they have seen advertised.

Analyzing Influences Learning how to analyze advertisements will help you to make better choices. You will become an advertiser's worst nightmare: an educated consumer. Being a wise consumer can save a lot of money because you think before you buy. You will investigate before buying, instead of just accepting the advertiser's claims.

Ten Advertising Appeals Brand Loyalty- convince a person that one particular brand is better than all others Humor- A catchy slogan, jingle, or cartoon. Something that sticks in your mind. Scientific evidence- Uses data from surveys and lab results to convince you this product is the best

Advertising Appeals Cont. Reward- Offers a special prize, gift, or coupon. Attraction- Tries to convince you that it will make you attractive
