22 September 2015 Ms. Smith CCR English 10 Writer’s Notebook Of Mice and Men Pre-Reading 22 September 2015 Ms. Smith CCR English 10 I can draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.

Writer’s Notebook Theme: An insight or message about life. Theme is rarely directly stated by the author. Good literature = lots of possible themes.

Theme is always more than one word. “Friendship” “Bravery” You need to dig deeper! Ask yourself: What is the author saying about friendship? What is the author saying about bravery?

Pre-Reading Today we are going to complete the last two activities in your packet: Great Depression article Evaluating Media

Evaluating Media I will show you four photographs taken during the Great Depression. Use these photographs to complete the five questions.

Great Depression Last week, you learned to annotate. With your partner, go through the article and make twenty annotations. Remember, it is more than just highlighting, underlining, or circling.
