THEME  Theme  An insight about human life that’s revealed in a literary work  Theme is rarely directly stated by author  Good literature = lots of possible, provable themes  Ask: “What’s the author’s message to me?”  Theme is always more than one word  “Friendship”  “Bravery”  “Sexism”  If your theme sounds like a Hallmark card or a fortune cookie message, you need to dig deeper to find a unique, compelling theme.

Theme  What is the theme of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix?

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Themes Power She is in love with power. There is nothing she enjoys more than demonstrating her power over other people. Her persecution of Harry and Professor Dumbledore because they are threats to her power does Voldemort's work for him. Friendship It's often easy to be friends with someone when things are going well. Real friends will also stand by you when storms blow up in your life. The people who really love you will stick around anyway; that's what friendship is all about. Harry is a giant walking ball of anger, but his best friends put up with his bad moods. Hermione and Ron both scold him for his temper tantrums, and even Ginny gets quite sharp with him when he's afraid he's being possessed by Voldemort.

Theme  What is the theme of The Hunger Games?

The Hunger Games Themes Love  Katniss has spent her whole life just trying to survive and because of that she does not, repeat, does not get attached to people.  There is this one boy, though, named Gale that she sort of likes.  Then there's Peeta who she's just pretending to be in love with.  The Hunger Games romance can be a really great way to survive on the battlefield.  By kissing her co-tribute Peeta, Katniss is able to score support and gifts from her sponsors.  None of this helps Katniss figure out how she really feels. Sacrifice  Katniss makes a huge personal sacrifice when she takes her sister's place in the Hunger Games.  She and Peeta sacrifice themselves for each other at the end of the Games when they pop the berries in their mouth.  Katniss and Peeta are willing to die together.  Sacrifices make a big impact because they remind us that human life means something.
