1 Wednesday Warm-Up Create a graphic organizer in your warm-up section. 3 PREDICTIONS YOU HAVE ABOUT THE NOVEL PERSEPOLIS (FROM YOUR ANTICIPATION GUIDE, WEBQUEST, AND YESTERDAY’S VIDEO). 3. 3 Persepolis Packet 1) Vocabulary 2) Panel Analysis
You choose words you don’t know. You must have at least three per chapter. Write the word, the page number, and the definition (look it up or ask!) 2) Panel Analysis You must find two connections to human rights in each chapter. List the page number and panel number(s). Explain, in detail, how this connects to human rights. It would be helpful to give the article from the UDHR that it applies to, or at least say a specific topic (i.e. child soldiers; right to equality; etc.)

4 Thursday 3/9 Warm-UP – reading journal
On new paper or on a new page in your notebook, start a section called “Persepolis Reading Journals.” You will use this space to journal on each chapter and turn them in at the end (this is your warm-up grade for this unit). Respond to and reflect on Ch. 1 & 2 that we read yesterday. Summarize the chapters. Discuss the key events. Ask questions. Talk about your feelings and emotions that arose during the chapter. Make connections to yourself, other texts, and/or the world. Put yourself in Marji’s and the other characters’ shoes – how do they feel? What is their life like? Write down meaningful quotes and discuss them.

5 Thursday - Read Ch. 3, 4, and 5 - Complete vocabulary and panel analysis. - “The Letter” Assignment (rewrite from Mehri, the maid’s, persepctive) is due by Monday.

6 Friday 3/10 Warm-Up: Ch. 3, 4 and 5 reading journal – do now
Respond to and reflect on Ch. 3, 4, and 5. Summarize the chapters. Discuss the key events. Ask questions. Talk about your feelings and emotions that arose during the chapter. 7 Friday Read Ch. 6, 7, and 8. Complete vocabulary and panel analysis. Do not get behind on your packet!

8 MONDAY 3/13 WARM-UP - READING JOURNAL

9 Monday - Read Ch. 9, 10, and 11. - Complete vocabulary and panel analysis. - Homework: Quiz on Ch. 1-9

10 Tuesday 3/14 warm-up – reading journal

11 Tuesday - Read Ch. 12, 13, and 14. - Complete the vocabulary and the panel analysis. - Remember, the chapters are on the blog if you need to work at home!

12 Wednesday 3/15 warm-up – reading journal

- Do your final reading journal on Ch. 18 and 19. - At the end of your reading journals, answer this question: How did you like the book? Why? What did you learn from it about the world?

16 PERSEPOLIS / graphic novel ASSESSMENT
- We will do this on Monday and Tuesday. It is a test grade. - You will be able to use YOUR packet and a book – but you will need to be prepared as well. - Make sure you understand: The parts of a graphic novel (be able to identify the terms) Major events/scenes we discussed while reading The major characters Connections to human rights – how they have them, AND how they don’t
