Importance The Supreme Court of the United States is the highest judicial body in the United States consists of the Chief Justice of the United States and eight Associate Justices (9 total)

How are they chosen? nominated by the President with the "advice and consent" (majority vote) of the Senate Justices effectively have life tenure Judges can only be terminated upon death, resignation, retirement, or conviction on impeachment For the year 2010, an Associate Justice is paid $213,900 and the Chief Justice $223,500.
