CORPORATE VISION AND MISSION

VISION Every organization has a vision and mission statement. Vision gives a direction to the employees of an organization.

Definition Vision as a “mental perception of the kind of environment an individual, or an organisatin, aspires to create within a broad time horizon and the underlying conditions for the actualisation of this perception”. Vision as a category of intentions that are broad, all inclusive and forward thinking”.

A Vision Statement help as follows. To creating cohesiveness in the organisation. It helps in setting the goals of the organisation. A good vision inspires for going ahead. It fosters long term thinking. It encourage risk taking and experimentation.

MISSION The idea of mission statement is to keep members and users aware of the organisation.

Definition Mission as the “essential purpose of the organisation, concerning particularly why it is in existence, the nature of the business it is in, and the customers it seeks to serve and satisfy”. Mission is the “purpose or reason for the organization existence”.

Characteristics of a mission statement It should be flexible. It should be precise. It should be clearly spelt out. It should be motivating for the stakeholders. It should be distinctive from the statements of similar organisation. It should state how the objectives of the organisation will be achieved.
