Independent and dependent variables Independent variable is the one you changed on purpose, please list each condition you used (and even how you measured it if you had to measure). Example: The independent variable for this experiment, was the temperature the magnet was at. The temperatures tested were: 0°C, 20 ° C, 33°C, 56 °C, and 100 °C. Dependent variable is the one you measured (your data). State what you measured and how you measured it (what equipment you used). The dependent variable measured in this experiment was the weight of safety pins measured in grams. The scale used went down to 0.1grams.

The control and constants The control condition used in this experiment was a magnet at room temperature or 22 °C. The constants in this experiment were the magnet used, the amount and type of safety pins were all consistent. The plate the safety pins were on was the same, and the tongs used to pick up the magnet at each temperature was the same.

Data Analysis Things to discuss and analyze – Discuss what is on your graphs (rarely also tables) - however do NOT just repeat data point for point. Discuss averages and really significant points (and/or outliers and why they are significant or might have occurred). Use table numbers and graph numbers in your discussion. DEFINITELY talk about the Final avg data for each independent condition. What implication the data has. Range of data for each condition can be useful, if you use range talk about if the range is large or small and why that might be good or not good) Trends Patterns Consistency (wide range within each condition is not good, why wide range?) Wide range between conditions is good/informative because it shows there is a change in data based on changes you made. Compare averages/NUMBERS A+ to compare % change between each conditions (use averages) Differences between your AVERAGES especially Explain graphs and some data in tables (outliers is something to think about)

Conclusion Restate hypothesis Was it confirmed or not? (or some of each, explain if some of each) Data that confirmed or showed incorrect. Scientific reason for what data showed.
