World History Course Procedures Sanderson High School Fall Semester, 2012 Mr. Duffy

Mr. Duffy’s Golden Rule Be where you are supposed to be. When you are supposed to be there. Doing what you are supposed to be doing.

Words to the Wise Arrive to Class on Time! You must be in you seat when the second bell rings. Being on time will result in more time for learning and understanding the curriculum. Failure to do so without a pass will result in a Lunch Detention administered in the Auditorium.

Words to the Wise Advocate for Yourself! If you have a question, raise your hand and ask. If you are struggling with something, ask at smart lunch or stop by after school and get the problem resolved. I am easy to talk to when I am not conducting class. Your efforts will earn you consideration and credit towards your issue. E-mails are a great way to communicate with me. Plan for a 24 hour response.

Words to the Wise Listen! Info cannot go in if it is always coming out. Listen to my instructions, other student’s questions and discussion comments. It is all valuable course material and/or information. Do not talk while others are speaking.

Words to the Wise Be a person of character! Do not lie, cheat or steal. I can tolerate a lot, but I cannot stand those who do not have character. It is what defines who you are as a human being. Strive to be a better person!

Other Issues GENERAL DISRUPTIONS: Texting, horseplay, unnecessary talking, chewing gum, eating/drinking, lack of courtesy, ignoring the dress code, etc. are unacceptable. Attentive, respectful behavior will result in an environment where learning and growth can take place. INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE: Cursing and threats of any kind are unacceptable. Using appropriate language will result in better communication between classmates and with Mr. Duffy. CLASS PREPARATION: All students must be prepared to learn for the ENTIRE class period. Students WILL NOT be allowed to go to lockers for forgotten materials. Being prepared for class increases your opportunity for learning.  SLEEPING: Putting your head down on your desk, resting your head on your arm, and general sleeping is not acceptable. Staying awake enables you to listen, discuss, participate, and LEARN.

Beginning Class Find your seat and get out the appropriate materials for the start of class. Quietly follow the instructions on the overhead or ink board. Work quickly through the introductory activity. (Ex: Warm-up Activity, Homework Quiz, Silent Reading, etc.)
