Cultural Book by Eric Siegel

Alright students, that’s the end of the book… “Friends and neighbors will say, ‘What happened to that Esperanza? Where did she go with all those books and paper? Why did she march so far away?’”

We’ll be doing a creative assignment for this book… Everyone will put together a book of personal cultural background stories We’ll be doing a creative assignment for this book… Did everyone enjoy the book? Great! Then at least Eric enjoyed it… Not Really No Uh-oh, I don’t know anything about my background Well I liked it a lot! Not at all Nope

Wow! I actually had no idea. Well, can you tell me a story? Mom, I’m going to ask you some questions about my background. Sounds great sweety. Well as you should know, we are Russian. Sure. Here’s a funny one…

About the late 1930’3. Anyways one day at a market he heard about banana bread from a crowd of people… My father was very new to this country and was trying to learn our customs. Wait mom, about what year was all this taking place?

Ewww… So he grabbed an old, mushy banana and spread it like butter on a piece of bread… So he returned home that day to try and make some…

OK thanks mom! I’m gonna go work on my project now. It wasn’t until months later that he realized that banana bread was something completely different.

Wow, all these stories are really easy to write thanks to my mom The words are just flowing out of me…

Wow, I’m such a great artist too… This book is starting to look just like, “House on Mango Street.” The resemblance is uncanny.

Hmmm… if only the students got this excited about class everyday… Wow! Incredible! Hey everybody! Check out my cool new project! Super cool! Amazing!

The End Thanks for the help grandpa; wherever you are… No problem, kid. Ya made me proud. The End
