Student #1: Our class is holding a special election. We want to decide what the best book genre in the world is. This could be a very difficult choice. How do you think we should go about making our decision? Mason

3 Student #2: Maybe we should just put all the book genres into
a hat and pull one out. Student #3: No, I don't think so. Since we haven't read all the books in the world, we could leave out a great book genre by mistake. Carter Robert

Realistic Fiction: I'm a realistic fiction book. Most libraries are filled with books like me. I tell made up stories about people that children love and can make connections to. Realistic fiction books like us are often read to classrooms by their teachers. We are books with stories about things that could really happen. Nick

Biography : Wait a minute. What about us? We think that biographies are pretty important too. People can learn a lot from reading about the lives of successful people! With us you can learn about artists, scientists, teachers, singers, inventors, presidents and many other people who are important to the whole world. Kate

Poetry: Don't leave us out either! We hold collections of poems by many great poets. The poems in me can make someone laugh or cry. They can be short or long. Each of our poems says something different to each person who reads it. Savannah

21 Student #2: Yes. I feel differently about my favorite genre on different days! Some days I feel like reading a good realistic fiction book like Junie B. Jones. Other days I like to kick back and read some serious poems. When I'm feeling curious, I get some information books to read. Student #4: That makes sense. Everyone has their own idea of what is the best kind of book to read. People are different and so are their reading tastes. DaLeesa Carter

Book Fairy: That's correct. Whether you read realistic fiction, fantasies, biographies, information books, poetry, or humor doesn't matter that much. It's not what you read that counts. It's reading something that's the key! Read something everyday! That's what's important!
