Manifest Destiny Chapter 9 Section 2

The Frontier Draws Settlers President Jefferson wanted to create an empire of liberty that spread from coast to coast. Manifest Destiny: the want to expand west. Many people who migrated west did so, because of financial problems and for the vast amounts of land in the west. Trade with Asia also sparked interest to move West. Trade ports and routes from Oregon had made it easier for them to trade with their Asian neighbors.

Settlers and Native Americans Native American were not thrilled with the idea that Settlers would be moving west through their home. Black Hawk- a native chief- led a rebellion against the Settlers. This led to his tribe being forcibly removed to the land west of the Mississippi. This land would become known as the Middle Ground, no one truly controlled this area yet. Treaty of Fort Laramie: would be created to give the Natives control of the Middle Ground as log as they agreed not to attack settlers, and allow the railroad and military forts to be built in the area.

Trails West Santa Fe Trail: Independence, Missouri to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Traders would ride in groups of 100 wagons and would ride together to trade with the Mexicans in Santa Fe. The Oregon Trail: Independence, Missouri to Portland Oregon. Mormons were a large group who migrated west on the Oregon Trail. Joseph Smith would create the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in New York in 1830 He would move to Narvoo, Illinois, where he would be jailed for his polygamy and later killed Brigham Young would move the religion westward to the Great Salt Lake in Utah.

Market Revolution Find a technology in Chapter 9 Section 1 and write a 1 page essay about how it was created and why it is/was important. Then find a piece of technology from today and in essay format tell me: Who invented it?, When was it invented, and how?, How has it changed your lifestyle?, What came before it? Or possibly after it?, How would you improve it?
