Individual Past Collective History The major events and experiences in your life that shape you and your memories. The history of a group of people. Ex: You play piano, you win awards at the Kiwanis Music Festival and play in school concerts. Ex: The Native People of Canada were forced to move away from their home to go to school and treated poorly.

Unit 1: Introduction: History as a Lens to the Past Grade 8 Social Studies OUTCOME # 1.5 History is open to interpretation. Explain. Historians may use or emphasize different historical sources. Historians may interpret historical sources differently. Historical sources may give conflicting information. Historians may come to different conclusions. As we all know, different people can have different versions of the same event. Example: It was once believed that John Cabot was the first to set foot on Newfoundland soil. In 1960, new information came to light and we discovered through L'anse aux Meadows that the Vikings were the first to settle here.
