History and The Historian

2 Why Study History? To understand who we are and where we came from.
To understand why our culture is the way it is. To understand why our people are so unique and of values are what they are.

3 Key Words Collective past – the history of a group of people from a similar area. Historical Method – the steps a historian uses to find the answer to a question they have. Individual past – the major events and experiences that shape you and your memories. Primary source – a first-hand account made at the time of the occurrence. Secondary source – an interpretation of the event based on information gathered from primary sources.
