Views for Excel and Reporting

Views for Excel and Reporting In SQL, a view is a virtual table based on the result-set of a SQL statement. A view contains rows and columns, just like a real table. The fields in a view are fields from one or more real tables in the database. You can add SQL functions, WHERE, and JOIN statements to a view and present the data as if the data were coming from one single table.

Views for Excel and Reporting A view is used to do any or all of these functions: Restrict a user to specific rows in a table. For example, allow an employee to see only the rows recording his or her work in a labor-tracking table. Restrict a user to specific columns. For example, allow employees who do not work in payroll to see the name, office, work phone, and department columns in an employee table, but do not allow them to see any columns with salary information or personal information.

Views for Excel and Reporting A view is used to do any or all of these functions: Join columns from multiple tables so that they look like a single table. Aggregate information instead of supplying details. For example, present the sum of a column, or the maximum or minimum value from a column.
