Great Expectations Rise and Shine - We treat every day as an opportunity to do even better. This approximately 10 min, daily presentation is informative, interactive and builds unity through our core values and beliefs as a school, setting the stage for success. Academic Rigor - We all continue to receive summer training and training throughout the school year to research, practice and refine best practices to help our students become even more successful.

Attendance When a student must be absent from school, the student upon returning to school must bring: a.) A note signed by the parent that describes the reason for the absence. Please send notes on paper with a parent’s signature – emails are not acceptable notes; b.) A note from a doctor (if applicable); c.) If a student is absent for more than 5 consecutive days because of a personal illness, a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition must be provided. Notes must be turned in within 5 days of the student’s return to school. Additionally, if absences become excessive, the student may be required to submit a doctor’s note verifying illness for the absences to be excused. If your student goes to the doctor and the doctor’s note states the student may return to school the following day but the student stays home an additional day, you must provide a parent note to cover the additional day along with the doctor’s note. NOTE: If your student is absent due to illness, please include his/her symptoms in your note. This is particularly important as we track absences related to flu and flulike symptoms and report this information to the health departments. Please let us know if your child has a fever, sore throat, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. If your student will be absent more than one day, a call to the campus would be helpful.

Attendance Official Attendance Time at Lakewood Elementary is 10:10a. Excused/Unexcused Absences Absences will be classified as “excused” or “unexcused.” Absences that are documented and verified for the following reasons will be classified as excused: • Personal illness (with a doctor’s or parent note) • Serious illness or death in the immediate family • Medical or dental appointments (with a doctor’s note) • Weather or road conditions making travel dangerous • Extenuating circumstances approved by the Principal (5 day maximum per school year) Absences for reasons other than those listed above will be considered unexcused.

Arrival and Dismissal Car Rider Dismissal Procedures To ensure that all of our students are dismissed safely, please follow these procedures: Please form one line down Gettysburg Drive from Louetta in the right hand lane. This allows residents to travel throughout the neighborhood without waiting in the car rider line. Please do not block the left hand lane on Gettysburg Drive coming from Louetta. This lane must stay clear so that buses, emergency vehicles, and residents have access to the neighborhood. Please do not park in front of driveways so that homeowners have access to their homes. Please be courteous of each other and respect the rights of homeowners living in the neighborhood. Please do not turn left into our driveway from Gettysburg Drive during dismissal hours. Once on TISD property, please stay close to the right curb to allow an access lane. This allows entry to our school parking lot for various reasons: TISD buses picking up students, parents who are here for meetings or picking up sick students from the clinic, & emergency vehicles in the event of an emergency. Please also keep your pink car rider cards up in your front passenger window until your children are in the car with you and have your students’ names displayed in large, bold print. The yellow car rider signs will be available at Meet-the-Teacher and in the front office.

Arrival and Dismissal All transportation changes must be received in front office by 3:00 to ensure that changes are communicated to staff. Transportation changes must be made through written communication and must include: Student’s Name Teacher Name Description of transportation change Dates transportation change will be in needed Parent Signature *Please remind your student(s) to give changes to the front office or teacher upon arrival.
