Copying Caroline on the will save the teacher from forwarding s during the busy morning arrival and the need for the office to call you to find out why your child is not at school. OR Call the school at to report the absence.

5 Reporting an Absence or Late Arrival
ATTENDANCE 101 Reporting an Absence or Late Arrival It is KHES policy for the Attendance Clerk to call the parent/guardian by 10:30 am for any student that is marked absent without prior notice to the office. The policy was established to help ensure the safety and security of our students. This includes: Single day absences Consecutive day absences when a student is out due to illness. We don’t assume a student is still sick just because they were out sick the day before or left early due to illness. If a student is traveling for consecutive days, a parent is required to contact the office with the date range that the student will be absent.

6 ATTENDANCE 101 The Magic Time Attendance is “official” at 9:55 am.
If your student is not in the building at 9:55 am, they are officially marked absent unless a doctor’s note is provided proving that the student had a medical appointment either before they arrived at school or if the student leaves the building before 9:55 am. Students arriving tardy without a doctors note after 9:55 am will be marked absent. NEW TIME! 9:55 am Attendance Bell!

7 ATTENDANCE 101 When Do I Need A Note?
A doctor’s note is required for your student to be counted present if your child is absent from school at the time attendance is official (9:55 am) in the following instances: Student is late arriving to school due to a health care appointment Student has to leave school before 9:55 am for a health care appointment; they are considered absent until that note is provided A doctor’s note is required for a student that has five consecutive absences due to an illness. A doctor’s note or parent note is required for any absences a student may have. A phone call from the parent may be accepted, but the district reserves the right to require a written note. It is best practice to provide a doctor’s note whenever possible.

8 ATTENDANCE 101 Public school students in the state of Texas are expected to be in attendance a minimum of 90% all school days. A parent/guardian has FIVE DAYS from the date of an absence to provide the school with documentation as to the reason for the absence. This ensures proper attendance coding. A letter from the district may be sent home to a student who misses 3 or more days of school unreported or has 10 or more tardies.

9 Something To Think About…
Did you know that KISD is partially funded by the State of Texas based on student attendance? KISD spends about $34 per day, per student and receives about $14 per day from the State of Texas for each student in attendance. While we cannot control when our children become ill, we can control our travel and leisure plans. What does traveling during the school year do to our funding? One child who misses five days of school =$70 lost to KISD If every student at KHES missed five days of school, they would lose $31,570 from just our campus alone.

10 ATTENDANCE 101 KHES Attendance Goals for 2016-2017
Our daily attendance rate does not only impact our funding, it impacts our accountability standings. Exceptional schools provide exceptional learning opportunities every day – KHES is an exceptional school! Please help to support us in our attendance goal for the school year. KHES Attendance Rate History = 95.11% = 95.88% = 95.00% = 95.10% KHES Attendance Goal for = 97%

11 QUESTIONS? Parents/guardians can log into Home Access Center to view your student’s attendance. Please do not hesitate to contact the front office for any questions regarding your child’s attendance. (817)
