7 Elkmont High School Procedures for Arrival
First Day of School is Tomorrow, August 3rd Building Opens at 7:30 am Elementary students (PreK--5th) report directly to the classroom for breakfast. Everyone else reports to the cafeteria or 1st period class. School Starts at 7:55 am Ending Bell – 3:05

8 Elkmont High School Procedures for Arrival
Kindergarten Families Drop off in the north parking lot in front of the Kindergarten Building. Elementary Families (1st-5th) Drop off in the Car Rider Line (Steve Pettus Road). Please pay attention because high school students will be going to and from the high school parking lot. Elementary Students riding with older siblings should be walked to the door of the elementary building. Car Rider Line operates from 7:30 until 7:45.

High School Students should also be dropped off in the Car Line or the High School Parking Lot. For the SAFETY of ALL STUDENTS, please DO NOT drop your child off on the road or in a side parking lot. No PreK-5th Grade student is allowed to be left waiting outside any building of the school before the doors are unlocked at 7:30.

Walking Students to Class Kindergarten Parents: You may walk your child to their class for the 1st full week of school Last Day for Walking Students to Class(Fri, 8/12) 1st-5th Grade Parents/Siblings: You may walk your child/sibling to class the first three days of school. Last Day for Walking Students to Class (Fri, 8/5)

Buses Buses unload at the front of the school and buses use the front loop of the school from 7:15 until 7:40 If you are unsure of the bus your child should ride and/or pick up time, please speak with your child’s teacher or stop by the front office

12 Elkmont High School Procedure for Transportation Changes
Buses All bus transportation notes must be sent to the front office the morning of the bus change. If you have an emergency situation, please send an . If you do not get a reply to the , please call the school to verify the note was received. If something changes, please tell us early. Do not tell student to wait on older sibling to ride bus…the teacher will get them to the correct bus. Please help your child learn his/her bus #

13 Elkmont High School Procedures for Dismissal
Elementary Car Rider Line will begin at 2:55. Please do not park in the parking lot and ask your child to walk across the car line to your car. This is very DANGEROUS with many moving cars. If you need to check your child out, please do so before 2:45 to avoid confusion at dismissal time. Elementary students who ride in a car with older driving siblings will wait in the short hallway of elementary for high school dismissal. Older students MUST escort these students to the car.

19 Elkmont High School Attendance Expectations
Student absences are classified as excused or unexcused. Absences for the following reasons will be deemed excused with supporting documentation submitted within 3 school days: Personal illness (Limit of 5 days per semester without doctor’s excuse) Hospitalization/ Medical or dental appointment with a note from the Doctor’s office. Emergency (approved by principal) Death in immediate family Court subpoena (must provide documentation) Religious holiday (with prior written approval by principal) Other Absence approved by principal (no more than 2 days)

20 Elkmont High School Attendance Expectations
Absences for reasons other than those listed above and for those lacking the appropriate supporting documentation will be deemed unexcused. Supporting documentation will not be accepted after 3 school days upon the student’s return to school. Excessive unexcused absences from school may result in a loss of academic credit and/or a referral to legal authorities. For students of driving age, excessive unexcused absences (including check-ins and check-outs) will result in the suspension of driving privileges: 5th unexcused absence – suspension of driving privileges for 9 weeks 8th unexcused absence – suspension of driving privileges for 18 weeks

Limestone County School has instituted new Attendance Policies for absences and tardies that can effect student grades and driving privileges. Please make sure you read the LCS STUDENT HANDBOOK for these change.

22 Elkmont High School Procedures for Check-Ins and Check-Outs
All PreK-5th grade students should be checked in by an adult. Do not send your child in alone. NO ONE can check out your child unless you have added that person to the approved list in iNow. You MUST have a picture ID to check out a student.

DO NOT check your child out for unexcused reasons. Have HIGH EXPECTATIONS for your child and for yourself!! Be a Leader!!

25 Elkmont High School Semester Exams
A cumulative semester exam is given in each academic course at the end of first semester (Weeks 1-18) and second semester (Weeks 19-36). Semester exams will count no more than 10 percent of the final semester average. All students are required to complete semester exams in December. A student may exempt May semester exams by meeting one of the following conditions: 90 or above average with 5 or fewer excused absences for the year, 80 or above average with 3 or fewer excused absences for the year, 75 or above average with 2 or fewer excused absences for the year.

26 Elkmont High School Grading Procedures
The evaluation of a student’s achievement is an important function of the individual classroom teacher and the school system as a whole. The grading system for the Limestone County Schools is divided into two nine-week grading periods for each course of study per term. Each parent will receive a progress report from each teacher per course at the end of the fourth week during each nine-week grading period.

Elkmont High School Inclement Weather Procedures In case of severe weather watch the local TV stations and listen to the radio stations Possibilities No school 1 or 2 hours late Dismiss 1 or 2 hours early (parents will be contacted)

29 Medication Procedures
Elkmont High School Medication Procedures There is a form to be completed and returned to school before your child can receive medication as required. This form must be completed every year. Please DO NOT send medication to the school with your child. All medication must be brought to the nurse by a parent or guardian.

30 Parent-Teacher Communication
Elkmont High School Parent-Teacher Communication Notes, , and/or Phone calls Please call or your child’s teacher and set up a conference when you have a concern iNow is a great resource for keeping up with your child’s grades in 3rd-12th grade. If you need an iNow password, stop by the counselor’s office.

31 PTO Elkmont High School
First Meeting: Tuesday, September 6:00 PM in the cafeteria. We encourage all parents to join PTO and help our teachers have the tools they need for a great year. A table is located in the lobby of the new gym for you to sign up tonight.
