Understanding your Impact on Well-Being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 Contributing to and Reporting on the 7 Wellbeing Goals, Local Wellbeing Plans, and the 5 Ways of Working

The impact of your activities/organisation in relation to the 7 Wellbeing Goals What you do How you work How your activities fit into the Local Wellbeing Plans and identified priorities What do you want to know more about How to get involved and report to the PSBs

Prosperous: productive, innovative, low-carbon; efficient resource use; skilled and well-educated population; employment opportunities Resilient: biodiverse natural environment; capacity to adapt to (climate) change Healthier: physical and mental wellbeing maximised; healthy choices and behaviours More Equal: fulfil potential no matter background or circumstances Cohesive Communities: Attractive, viable, safe and well-connected communities Vibrant Culture, Thriving Welsh Language: promoting and protecting culture, heritage and Welsh language; participation in arts, sports and recreation Globally Responsible: activity has a positive contribution to global well-being and capacity to adapt to (climate) change

Impact of your Activities Map the different ways that your organisation contributes to the 7 Wellbeing Goals for clients, staff and volunteers: What do you do (activities/outputs), what are the outcomes, and where does it fit into the wellbeing goals? How do you work (policies, processes and culture), what are the outcomes, and where does it fit into the wellbeing goals?

Befriending service Loneliness and isolation Volunteer skills Mental Health Healthier Wales, Cohesive Communities Volunteer skills Confidence, employability Prosperous Wales Bringing together people of different ages and backgrounds Making connections Cohesive Communities Equal Opportunities Policy Equality and Diversity in employment More Equal Wales Family Friendly Policies Work-Life Balance Healthier Wales Use of local community building Local supply chain, making connections Prosperous Wales, Cohesive Communities For example, a befriending service might report against indicators for inclusion, loneliness or health but perhaps not for other potential benefits e.g. increasing confidence, skills or employability of volunteers contributing to a Prosperous Wales. It may also support a Wales of cohesive communities by bringing together people of different ages and backgrounds that may not have otherwise met. Think not just about what you do but also how you do it so e.g. an organisation may contribute to a Healthier Wales not just through running a healthy eating programme but by creating a culture of work-life balance for its staff and volunteers. Or it may contribute to an Equal Wales not just through a diversity project but implementing its own robust Equal Opportunities policy and making diversity training part of its induction process. How an organisation stays true to its values internally and tries to influence others may be as important here as its activities externally.

Local Well-Being Plans How does your activity support the Local Well-being Plan and identified priorities? How do you report on these activities? What do you want or need to know more about? How do we as a sector, network and organisations want to contribute and report to the PSBs?

Five ways of working How could you use the 5 Ways of Working to improve what you’re doing? Or use from the start with new projects?

Long Term Importance of balancing short-term needs with the need to safeguard the ability to also meet long-term needs What long term trends are most relevant to your activity? (Future Trends Report: https://gov.wales/docs/statistics/2017/170505-future-trends-report-2017-en.pdf) How do they affect you? What impact could your activity have on these trends? How sustainable is your activity? Does your activity affect the sustainability of another activity, positively or negatively? Identify the long-term, future trends and scenarios, challenges and opportunities that are most relevant to your project How do these trends affect your project? What impact could your project have on these trends? Consider how sustainable the project will be: will it be self-sustaining, or require significant additional resources?

Prevention Acting to prevent problems occurring or getting worse may help meet objectives What problems could your activity help prevent? (social, economic, cultural, environmental) What root causes could your activity help address? How does your activity support breaking negative cycles? How could your activity minimise its own negative impacts? e.g. waste and resource use Consider the types of problems that your project could help prevent in future, e.g. social, economic, cultural, environmental What are the root causes your project could help address? How does your project support breaking negative cycles or intergenerational challenges? How could your project minimise its own negative impacts, e.g. waste and resource use, emissions

Integration Considering how your well-being objectives may impact upon each of the well-being goals, or on the objectives of other public bodies What practical steps will you take to integrate your activity with existing plans and strategies? What are the risks of negatively impacting on the wellbeing objectives of public bodies? What practical steps will you take to integrate your project with existing plans and strategies, to maximise the project’s contribution across the 7 well-being goals? Identify any risks of negatively impacting on

Collaboration Acting in collaboration with any other person (or organisation) that could help meet well-being objectives Who else is working towards similar wellbeing goals that you could collaborate with? Think about a range of related sectors and disciplines Identify key stakeholders from a range of related sectors and disciplines who could support the development of the project How will key stakeholders be involved in supporting productive and meaningful development of the project, and at what stage? Which groups are working towards similar well-being goals that you could collaborate with?

Involvement Involving people with an interest in achieving the well-being goals, ensuring that they reflect the diversity of the area served How will you engage stakeholders with different expertise, knowledge and backgrounds? Who are the key stakeholders directly or indirectly affected by your activity? How are they involved in the design, development, delivery of oversight of the activity? How will you engage stakeholders with different forms of expertise, knowledge and backgrounds? Identify key stakeholders affected directly or indirectly by the project How will they be involved in identifying the needs for this project? How will they be involved in the design, development, delivery or oversight?
