ENERGY TRANSPORTATION Survey on energy transportation by 1 st Epaggelmatiko Lykeio of Drama, Greece 2

Traditional and alternative sources of energy Traditional sources of energy: lignite oil natural gas All of them are in short supply Renewable energy resources: Hydropower Solar Energy Wind Energy Geothermal energy Biomass Waves and tides 3

The ways energy is transmitted/transported Electric power is usually transmitted through overhead power lines 400KV, 150KV, 20KV and 15KV. Oil and carbon are transported by tracks using the national roads. Gas is transported and distributed by underground tubes. 4

Main environmental problems connected to energy transportation Environmental problems connected to electric power transmission: The population exposure to electromagnetic fields Altering the aesthetics of the landscape Telecommunication interference The aesthetic deterioration in residential areas The transmission of electricity within the residential areas causing accidents due to electric shock The wires attract electricity in cases of lightning Changes on Earth's electric and magnetic field 5

Two different sides! OR OR OR 6

Alternative energy causes also pollution….. All kinds of renewable energy are ugly to be found in the environment so that causes visual pollution. Wind turbines disrupt nature by their noise and dangerous heating and few of them kill the living animals and plants from its turning blades. Other harmful gases and minerals may surface from geothermal power stations and can be difficult to control. Building dams may damage the nearby wildlife and dams. 7

8

What can be done to reduce PM-10 Dust control for roads, construction, and landfills Landscaping, barriers, and fencing to reduce windblown dust Programs to reduce emissions from wood stoves and fireplaces Cleaner-burning gasoline and diesel fuel Emission control devices for motor vehicles Controls for industrial facilities 9

Did you know that electromagnetic radiation is being transmitted while using Wi-Fi or mobile phones? oDid you know that using hands-free is safer than Bluetooth? oHave you ever considered the amount of electromagnetic radiation inside a classroom with 20 students all having mobile phones? oDid you know that there are many hidden antennas for the mobile network on many blocks in your city? 11

Thank you 12
