What is a Smart phone? Smartphones are mobile phones that offer more advanced computing ability and connectivity than a feature phone. Also Smartphones has an operating system that allows for additions to be added e.g. data processing, connectivity and entertainment e.g. iTunes and apps, applications software

Satellite Navigation Systems GPS – Global Positioning System Satellite Navigation Systems use GPS have 24 satellites named NAVSTAR orbiting the earth. The receiver listens for signals from these satellites. If it picks up signals from three or four different satellites it can calculate your exact position. It will then plot a route for you to follow. SATNAVs use touch screen technology for ease of use whilst driving They have VOICE commands so you dont have to look at the screen all the time

Mobile Technology Connectivity WAP – Wireless Application Protocol. Allows mobile phone users to view specially adapted websites on their phone screens. If you view these on your phone and they are different from when you view them on your computer you will probably be looking at a WAP site.

3G is the third generation of wireless technologies. It comes with high-speed transmission, advanced multimedia access and global roaming. 3G is mostly used with mobile phones and handsets as a means to connect the phone to the Internet or other IP networks in order to make voice and video calls, to download and upload data and to surf the net. Improved call quality - Full Web-browsing including Adobe Flash - Photo uploading e.g. Facebook - Social Networking, such as Facebook and Twitter - Music Streaming and uploading such as YouTube. - Download up to 10 times faster - Amazing numbers of applications such as Google - Video calling 3G

Exam Question Discuss how emerging technologies affect the way in which people and organisations operate and work together. Some possible areas; Wide range of very recent emerging technologies Teleworking (in all its forms) – home-based, mobile, telecentres, Online buying/shopping – 24/7 society, home deliveries Increased flexibility, flexible hours, home working Size of workforce, jobs loss because of introduction of ICT (unemployment), new jobs being created, mainly in ICT. Location of workplace, centralised, out of town, home working, mobile computing. Change in jobs, as with size of workforce but also training and retraining issues. Plus job satisfaction, ease of tasks etc Video conferencing - work together from anywhere in the world/home (Internet). Can communicate/collaborate from anywhere in the world. Share resources - from anywhere (online storage) Less face to face communication.
