Presentation transcript:

.0 Item: Northside Development and Destination Lindberg Study Impacts: The possibility of acquiring Marine Corps Recruit Depot land and building terminal, with gates and taxiway on Northside of airport was specifically ruled out as an area of study. As a result, if MCRD land becomes available, there is no contingency planning to develop terminal and gates on Northside. Other airport uses are currently planned for the Northside (Rental Car Garage/CONRAC, Air Cargo, Airport support Buildings, General Aviation etc) which may preclude building of adequately sized Terminal with associated aircraft gates.

.0 Item: Expansion of Terminal Two (West Terminal) and Aircraft Apron, current Issues: Traffic disruption during construction; increased congestion at Terminal Two and on Harbor Drive. Permanent loss of parking spaces may cause increased use of remote parking. Impacts: Terminal Two useful lifespan extended to which may preclude other airport terminal development (i.e. at Northside). Loss of parking may drive action to construct parking garage at Terminal Two. Increased Terminal capacity will cause additional traffic on Harbor Drive.

.0 Item: Terminal One Replacement, approximately Issues:Terminal One at end of useful life and will require replacement; Is replacement in current location and to east (on former Teledyne Ryan site) the best solution? Impacts: If Terminal One is rebuilt on approximately same location, Northside terminal with gates will be precluded indefinitely.

.0 Item:Road Traffic, current Issues: Road traffic volume on Harbor Drive, Laurel Street Lack of coordination of Airport road traffic with North Embarcadero traffic Impacts:Construction of Terminal Two and replacement for Terminal One will increase traffic and congestion on Harbor Drive and Laurel Street to potentially unmanageable levels. Increased traffic on Harbor drive will impact traffic volumes and development of North Embarcadero if not properly coordinated.

.0 Item: Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC), in planning by SANDAG Issues:Requires compatibility and coordination with Northside airport terminal development. Requires multi-agency cooperation and coordination which in past has been difficult/impossible to achieve (Airport Authority, Port Authority, SANDAG, City of San Diego, CALTRANS, California High Speed Rail, and many others). Impacts:Without coordination, ITC risks becoming an improperly sited and inefficient facility.
