Kindergarten News Contact Me! WEEK OF AUGUST 20, 2018 Upcoming Events We are moving into the fourth week, and your children are learning so much about school and how to be a kindergartener. Thank you for your continued support. We are beginning our new phonics program and writers workshop this week. These subjects will help give your children a solid foundation as beginning readers and writers. Ask your child what letter we focused on each day and the topic they chose to write about in writer’s workshop. I can’t wait to share their writings with you! As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact me! Twitter: Follow along @MrsCulpepperNHE We have started reading and math assessments. These measure your child’s reading and math level. We will send home a report when testing is complete. Sight Words Study nightly and leave the lists in the back of the binder for testing on Fridays! There will be 2 lists, but we only test one at a time. Your child also has a box with sight word flash cards in their book bag. Please, use them to play review games and practice. Place them back into their book bag each night. When your child masters a word, it will be highlighted on the list. They will get a new list when they master all 10 words. Remember, sight words are to be read quickly. They should not be sounded out. Also, please review the words randomly so your child doesn’t memorize the order of the list. Thank you for helping to give your child a great foundation for reading success! Homework Practice sight words nightly and read. There is a reader envelope in the binder that will go home weekly. The book inside reinforces sight words and phonics skills. Please keep the readers in your child’s binder.
