Battle of Hastings, 1066 In 1066, a man named William, Duke of Normandy, France, attacked the king of England at the Battle of Hastings. William and his soldiers won, William was crowned king of England, and he became William the Conqueror.

Battle of Hastings, 1066 William the Conqueror and his French nobles brought many European customs to England. The Anglo-Saxons who lived in England married many French people who came to England, and a new English culture was created.

Impact of the Norman Invasion Modern English language was created from the blending of English and French. Norman law, language, and culture replaced Saxon culture, and the Normans introduced feudalism into England.
