Citing Example One characteristic necessary to be considered a civilization is a stable food supply. In Sumer, the Sumerians created an irrigation system to help produce a stable food supply. In the textbook it states “the Sumerians built networks of canals, dams, and reservoirs to provide their crops with a regular supply of water” (pg. 43). Without water, the crops would not be able to grow and there would not be a stable food supply.
