Graphical Display of Surface finish Data Vacuum Chamber Graphical Display of Surface finish Data The average of all vacuum chambers is 14.86 mrad in Z′ and 35.14 mrad in X′, the rms of Z’ is 15.5 mrad and X’ is 36.9 mrad. Selecting the best 33 chambers yields an rms for Z’ of 13.9 mrad and X’ of 34.2 mrad. Extrusions 7, 10, 16, 28 and 35 were sacrificed to verify surface finish in the middle of the extrusions Should be Avoided Acceptable 15.5 Very Desirable From: E Trakhtenberg G Weimerslage 36.9

Quad Spool Design Flexible mini-bellows Surface finish measurements of the central tube show a roughness of Sq=.18 µm

Bellows Module Initially the supplier had problems with the welding of the SST adapter to the flange. The supplier solved the problem by using the micro-TIG welding process. Eight units are being assembled and are expected to Ship to SLAC on May 9, 2008 The other (27) units are in the pipe line and are schedule to arrive to SLAC on May 23, 2008

RFBPM Windows QC Results Since we have been measuring glass thickness and flatness and visually inspected windows. We have looked at 93 windows, 20 held aside for thin glass, 6 not flat, 1with a visual flaw.

Parts Stored in Dry Nitrogen Box

BPM Window Statistics Transition and window brazed with Georo braze filler Sub Assemblies are Vacuum checked before brazed to body In the last run of windows being brazed to transitions there were 13 of 13 defect free parts made. In the last run of body brazes, 3 bodies with 5 transition joints each, there were no leaks.

Beam Loss Monitor The BLM will be used for Two Purposes: A: Inhibit bunches following an “above-threshold” radiation event. B: Keep track of the accumulated exposure of the magnets in each undulator. Purpose A is of highest priority. BLM will be integrated into the Machine Protection System (MPS) and requires only limited dynamic range from the detectors. Purpose B is also desirable for understanding long-term magnet damage in combination with the undulator exchange program but requires a large dynamic range for the radiation detector (order of 106 ) and much more sophisticated diagnostics hard and software. Source: HD Nuhn Source: P Krejcik Primary function of the BLM is to indicate to the MPS if losses exceed preset thresholds. MPS processor will rate limit the beam according to which threshold was exceeded and what the current beam rate is.*Beam Current threshold determination? The thresholds will be empirically determined by inserting a thin obstruction upstream of the undulator. Simulation of losses and damage in the undulator will proceed in parallel with the present effort.
