Elements of Music Choir Notes Week 1

Beat (meter) The steady pulse throughout a song (A series of regular pulsations grouped together in reoccurring sets).

Rhythm Long and short note values which usually make patterns.

Tempo The speed of the song.

Timbre The quality of the sound (e.g., the difference between a female voice and a male voice). Each voice or instrument has its own unique sound, thus making it recognizable.

Expression Any musical device used to make the music more communicative.

Melody Is a combination of notes that may go up or down that make up the “tune” of the song.

Harmony Is the simultaneous sounding of two or more tones (notes) that are paired with the melody.

Dynamics The loudness or quietness of music.

form The way the music is organized (the map).
