Ms. Hovious’ 1st Grade Week of: February 11th, 2019 No School February 19th - President’s Day Valentines Party February 14th February 15th - Winter Carnival 5-8pm Dr. Seuss Day Friday, March 8th This week we will be using our counting on strategies to find the missing addend. Please continue to work on addition and subtraction flash cards at home. Reading- This week we are reading “Where Are My Animal Friends?” The genre is a Play. Our phonics skill is comparative endings -er, -est and dge /j/. Our comprehension skill is sequence and our strategy is prior knowledge. Be sure to work on comprehension every night after reading. February is a busy month! This week we will do more fun Valentine crafts and towards the end of the week we will discuss Presidents’ Day. We are continuing with our Lucy Calkin’s informative writing unit. Encourage your children to tell you five facts about one topic across their fingers as this is a strategy we are working on.
