1 A Snapshot from Mrs. King
for the week of February 8-12, 2016 Reading – Students this week will associate aw with o and all with ol. Students will decode words with –aw and –all. Students will recognize and understand their memory words and pattern words. Students will also read super-kids stories and use comprehension skills to answer questions. Students will also work on determining cause and effect. Memory Words: come, coming, they, our, put Pattern Words: Words will –all and –aw. Call, fall, small, law, saw, draw, down, yawn, lawn, bawl, crawl, shawl Memory words are in baggies in the students behavior folders along with the words to play memory at home. Superkids Unit 4 Spelling Test on Tuesday, February 16th. Superkids on-line Unit 3 & 4 Test on Thurs., February 18th. Books are being sent home every Monday to read at home. We are also working on these same books during reading group time. Please return the books with their baggie every Monday for a new book. Students are also completing one hour of reading groups on their reading level. This work is being sent home as a graded packet. I have also included site word rings in baggies with the books to be studying at home. These sight word levels were determined after January PALs testing. Math – This week in math students will work comparing and using the concepts of more, less, and equivalent. Students will also compare and use the concepts of more, less and equivalent when looking at volumes. Students will also compare the weight/mass of two objects, using a balance scale. Homework #9 is due on Friday, February 12th. Please work with your child on these problems nightly for extra review. Social Studies w/ Mrs. King: This week students will be studying Abraham Lincoln and reviewing George Washington. A quiz on these two Famous Americans will be on Wednesday, February 10th. On Thursday and Friday students will begin studying holidays and focus on the up-coming holiday Presidents Day! Important Dates & Information Please check Yellow Behavior Folders each night & initial. Friday, February 12th: Pass out Valentines! Tuesday, February 16th: Family Reading Night 6-7 Friday, February 19th: Dress up like a career SCA spirit day! Friday, March 11th : End of Quarter 3 Monday, March 14th: Now a School day! Friday, March 18th : Report Cards go home; Class Pictures! Friday, March 25th: Sports SCA Spirit Day! Friday, April 8th: Tie-Dye SCA Spirit Day! We will be passing out our valentines with the class on Friday, February 12th. We will be making a craft that week to hold our valentines. A class list is attached on the back of the Monday Memo. We will not be having any refreshments due to having a maximum of two parties per year and 1st grade has chosen Christmas and End of the Year  Mrs. King’s Resource Schedule: Monday – Music Tuesday Art Wednesday – P.E.
