YEAR 9 PERIOD 3 COMPLETE A PRODUCT ANALYSIS FOR 5 STORAGE UNITS THAT ARE ART DECO IN DESIGN, ALL DIFFERENT, ARE ORIGINAL AND INSPIRE YOU. THE FOLLOWING SLIDES WILL HELP YOU TO COMPLETE THIS. USE THE ACCESS FM QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU.

PRODUCT ANALYSIS When you are designing a new product, there will probably already be products that are similar or meet similar needs. You can use these products as a source of information to help you design your product. These are just some of the developments and improvements that Nintendo’s Gameboy went through.

Why are these two chairs designed the way that they are? PRODUCT ANALYSIS Product analysis involves investigating existing products. However, it is not just about describing them. It is about understanding why they are designed in a certain way. Why are these two chairs designed the way that they are?

PRODUCT ANALYSIS If you identify the good features of the product, you might be able to use these in your design. If you identify ways that the product could be improved, this might help you to create an even better product.

PRODUCT ANALYSIS ACCESS FM is a way of remembering what you should investigate when analysing a product. Each letter stands for a thing you should analyse. Aesthetics What colour is it? What shape is it? What texture does the surface have? Is it smooth or rough? Are the edges sharp or rounded? Does the product look attractive? Why? Customer Who might use the product? Why would they use this rather than another similar product? Cost How much does it cost to buy? Is it good value? Environment Is it environmentally friendly? Is it made from recycled materials? Can it be recycled? Size What size is it? Why is it this size? If the size was made bigger or smaller, would it work better? Safety How has the user been protected from harm when using it? Are there any sharp edges, small parts that could be swallowed? Function What the product be used for? How would it be tested to make sure it is suitable? How could it be improved to make it work better? Where will it be used? Materials and manufacture What materials is it made from? Would different materials work or look better? How was it made? Why was it made that way?
