1 - To be able to define the terms ergonomics - To be able to identify different human factors and there relationship to a product - To be able to analysis a product and how successful it is against human factors Why is it important to consider the user or a person when designing any product?

2 We consider human factors in three different ways when designing:
- To be able to define the terms ergonomics - To be able to identify different human factors and there relationship to a product - To be able to analysis a product and how successful it is against human factors We consider human factors in three different ways when designing: Physiologically Psychologically What doe these mean? Sociologically

3 - To be able to define the terms ergonomics - To be able to identify different human factors and there relationship to a product - To be able to analysis a product and how successful it is against human factors Physiological factors A human/person physicals capabilities Body size Weight, strength and stamina When designing these will be considered to make a product: Easy to use Lightweight Easy to control/operate Safety Comfortable Ergonomics – This is the relationship of how a person interacts and uses a product. A product with good ergonomics will be comfortable and easy to use. It will be easy for the person to interact with.

4 Psychological factors A humans/persons emotional capabilities
- To be able to define the terms ergonomics - To be able to identify different human factors and there relationship to a product - To be able to analysis a product and how successful it is against human factors Psychological factors A humans/persons emotional capabilities Emotions can be effected by colour, shape, smell, texture and sound When designing these will be considered to make a product: A suitable colour (light, neutral colours for a calm effect) An enjoyable smell, taste or texture for a food product A reassuring sound to indicate a product is working correctly

5 When designing these will be considered to make a product:
- To be able to define the terms ergonomics - To be able to identify different human factors and there relationship to a product - To be able to analysis a product and how successful it is against human factors Sociological factors A group of humans/people have different social, moral and religious beliefs. Humans/people of different ages and disabilities have different capabilities. When designing these will be considered to make a product: Appropriate so as not to insult any particular groups beliefs Accessible so that different groups can use it

6 Human factor – Case study
- To be able to define the terms ergonomics - To be able to identify different human factors and there relationship to a product - To be able to analysis a product and how successful it is against human factors Human factor – Case study You are going to conduct a case study of a product You are going to review is against the human factors use have looked at This will help you determine how successful or unsuccessful it is Case study structure Introduction – You will start by describing the product in as much detail as possible. Consider using the 5Ws (What, Who, Why, Where, When) Key advantages – Identify and explain the key advantages and features of the product/s which make it successful in relation the three types of human factors Areas of improvement – Identify and explain the limitations and constraints that the product/s has. Make suggestions on how it could be improved or redesigned. You can use sketches to help shows these improvements.
