1 Demographics = The Statistical data relating to the population and particular groups within it Learning Objectives To learn about demographics and how it relates to designing. To recognise the different needs of people from various social, ethnic, religious groups including gender and age. Task One: To Record the definition of demographics and explain what data this might include.

3 Demographics Task THREE: Using the table explain the advantages of countries losing people. Task FOUR: Using the table explain the disadvantages of countries gaining people. Demographic movement may occur due to new technologies, for example younger workers moving to jobs involving new or specialist technologies. As a result, some areas or countries lose people and other countries gain them. Table shows some advantages and disadvantages of demographic movement. There is a bigger table on the next slide so students can see it on the board

7 Considerations Will the product cause physical or mental harm to the user group? Can the product be misused or abused by people? Will specific social or religious groups be offended by the product? Product designers have a responsibility to society because they design and manufacture items which can affect people’s lives in many ways. Designers should consider these questions: Will the product affect the environment in any way? Does the product encourage a negative behaviour pattern?
