Focus Lesson: Finding the Main Idea A main idea is the most important thought. It topic of the paragraph. It uses supporting details or other information to help me better understand the Main Idea.

Focus Lesson: Finding the Main Idea How do I find the main idea of a paragraph? First, try covering up the paragraph or turning over your paper. Then ask yourself “What is it about?” Turn this thought into a sentence.
