1 Writing 101 The Writing Process

2 Brainstorming and Prewriting
Decide on a purpose and audience for your writing Choose a topic that would be suitable for your purpose and audience Explore ideas about your topic (Brainstorm, Cluster, List, Etc.) Narrow your topic if it is too large for you to cover it well.

3 Writing a First Draft Use your prewriting ideas to write your draft.
Do not worry too much about making errors. Get your ideas on paper.

4 Revising Read your draft. Share it with someone else to get a response. Ask yourself these questions about your draft: What else will my audience want to know? What details can I add? How can I make my purpose clearer? How can I make my writing easier to understand? How can I improve the organization of my writing?

5 Editing Read your revised draft.
Ask yourself these questions about your revised draft: Have I followed correct paragraph form? Have I used complete sentences? Have I used capitalization and punctuation correctly? Have I spelled all words correctly?

6 Final Draft Make a clean copy of your revised draft and proofread.
Share your writing with the audience for whom you wrote it.
