Assignment: Create an expressionistic linoleum print using music as your inspiration. You may choose any song, please make sure that it is school appropriate.

Things to know: Do not use words: they do not transfer well on linoleum and it is better to let your piece speak for itself. Remember that you are in a school environment: The images you choose, as well as the content of your song should be appropriate for display. Your image will be backwards when you print it. It is important to think about line and texture and how you can use them to help with expressionism Avoid clichés – broken hearts, rainbows, moon and stars etc. A cliché is a hackneyed phrase -- stale, trite, banal, commonplace, corny, dull, musty, redundant, repetitious, tedious, threadbare, timeworn, tired, tiresome, worn-out, boring.

Requirements: Three thumbnail sketches prior to beginning. 2 prints, one black and white and one altered with colored pencil. Use what you know about Expressionism to help you create an interesting composition.
