Framework of cultural statistics and field of creative industries revise the European (LEG) framework of cultural statistics, taking into account the new framework proposed by the Unesco and the EU-Member-States frameworks if available adapt the definition to the new nomenclatures (NACE, ISCO) propose a definition of the field of creative industries develop a methodological approach to consider the role of the ICT in cultural filed (digitisation, audiovisual, etc.) Working Group on cultural statistics - Luxembourg 30 June/1 July 2008 Name of the presentation

Cultural employment revise the method (adaptation for the new ISCO and NACE) and the LEG indicators on cultural employment make operational a routine delivery of data on cultural employment, based on the EU-LFS, while extending it to the creative industries a particular attention should be given to qualitative data such as level of education, level of earnings, nature of employment, gender split or number of creative workers embedded in non cultural/creative sectors (in order to better show that the cultural/creative sectors are key in the knowledge-based economy). Cultural/creative industries provide guidelines for data production, based on the Structural Business Statistics (including on SMEs) explore the possibilities of using business registers in a demographic perspective (number and size of companies, number and size of SMEs, percentage of SMEs in each sector, number of start-ups, survival rate of start-ups after 5 and/or ten years, number of micro-enterprises, number of self-employed/free-lancers, level of concentration) produce data on growth, growth differential with other sectors of the economy, value added, profitability consider the possibilities of producing statistics on audiovisual sector and other sectors, as well as cultural tourism propose ways forward in the context of the digital industry, in particular in relation to the audiovisual sector and the ICT. measuring the inputs of the cultural/creative sector into the wider economy so as to catch the spill over effects in terms of creativity and innovation.
