Exam Question: How is Crooks presented in the novel so far? We do: Steinbeck presents Crooks as having a very difficult life. He describes his face as having ‘deep, black wrinkles’. The adjective ‘deep’ emphasises just how stressful Crooks’ life has been. Steinbeck does this to show the unfairness towards black people in 1930s America. Criteria: -Use quotations to support your ideas. -Try to comment on the language that Steinbeck has used and what this tells us about Crooks. -Make links to context! LO: To develop an understanding of Crooks. Challenge: To be able to explain quotations in thoughtful detail. Literacy Focus: Punctuate sentences accurately.
