1 What does this Candidate do well?
Has a Plan! An Introduction that starts with Priestley’s name (Text as construct). Uses key terminology linked to themes in the play. Sets out a clear line of argument.

2 What does this Candidate carry on doing well?
Evaluates and brings their ideas together Focuses on key characters and considers their impact on the whole play Reinforces the Inspector’s (and therefore Priestley’s) message. Answers the question and has an opinion.

3 Engage Endeavour Explore Elaborate Evaluate End Select one quote analyse it in as much detail as possible. What does it reveal about the character or the theme? AO1 Read, understand and respond to texts. Students should be able to: • maintain a critical style and develop an informed personal response • use textual references, including quotations, to support and illustrate interpretations. AO2 Analyse the language, form and structure used by a writer to create meanings and effects, using relevant subject terminology where appropriate. AO3 Show understanding of the relationships between texts and the contexts in which they were written. AO4 Use a range of vocabulary and sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect, with accurate spelling and punctuation. What could you say about the language in your chosen quote? Remember it is a play – any comment on stage directions/lighting/set etc. Does your quote reveal anything about life in 1912? What is Priestley trying to show his 1945 audience? The extra 4 marks
