Why is Air Filtration Important? Homes are being built tighter than ever before to save on energy costs, so particulates like dust mites, pet dander, bacteria and others are trapped inside the home. On average, we spend 90% of our time indoors and breathe roughly 3,400 gallons of air each day. ½ of all families have someone directly affected by allergies. 85% of homeowners think the air outside is worse than the quality of air inside their home1… …But, in reality, indoor air can be 3-5 times more polluted than outdoor air2. . Why is IAQ such a big deal? Well we spend 90% of our time indoors. How many of you have made multiple trips outside today? Ok, so how many that don’t smoke made multiple trips outside today? The number falls significantly. We spend a lot of time indoors which means we’re probably not getting the ventilation/filtration we should be. We breathe 3400 gallons of air a day. Without proper ventilation or filtration that means we’re breathing in all these things you see at the bottom of this page. ½ of families have someone with allergies or asthma. How many in this room have a family member or know someone with allergies? Quote roughly how many hold up their hands (50%, etc). 85% of homeowners think being inside is better than being outside. We know from research that this isn’t the case as indoor air can be 3-5 times more polluted than indoor air. Homeowners want comfort in their home In a 2006 American Home Comfort Study conducted by Decision Analyst of over 27,000 homeowners, when asked what type of solutions they wanted in their homes, 3 of the 5 solutions were indoor air quality solutions, with 55% of homeowners wanting an air filtration solution1. 1. Air Conditioning - 72% 2. Humidification - 72% 3. Zoning - 61% 4. Air Filtration/Purification - 55% 5. Dehumidification - 40% Humidification was as desired as air conditioning as far as features homeowners said they would put into a new home. Homeowners are trying to solve the problems… Most homeowners are aware of the air quality issues in their homes and try to solve the problems with the solutions that they are aware of – like purchasing and using portable units. When asked, 63% of homeowners said they had at least one type of portable unit in their home, and 37% said they had 2 or more! However, for portables to be effective, they need to be out in the open, which can clutter a room, and their effectiveness is limited to the room they are in. Not to mention the investment of purchasing and running multiple portables in a home. It is your opportunity to offer a more energy efficient – and invisible – solution for homeowners.
