The Menstrual and Ovarian Cycles
The menstrual cycle  Menstruation: the condition in female when the lining of the uterus breaks down and blood with cells pass out of the vagina during.
Female Hormonal Cycle or the MENSTRUAL CYCLE MENSTRUAL CYCLE Normal cycle length is considered 28 days, however it can range from days divided.
The Human Menstrual Cycle What is the importance and stages in the human menstrual cycle?
Stage 1 – Menstruation Starts on Day 1 – lasts 3-7 days Hormones – travel in blood to target tissue – ALL 4 hormones at lowest levels Ovary – – Follicle.
 Produced by endocrine glands  Male endocrine glands = Testes  Female endocrine glands = Ovaries.
FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM
Do Now Name three organs of the female reproductive system
Understanding Ovulation
Hormones of the female reproductive cycle: Anterior pituitary gland: Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH): Stimulates growth of ovarian follicles, and estrogen.
Ovulation and Menstruation. Function of Menstrual Cycle Uterine walls thickens with rich blood supply in preparation for a fertilized egg If fertilization.
Female Reproductive System
 Follicle Stimulating Hormones (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH)- released in the pituitary gland.  Estrogen- Development of the female secondary sexual.
Female Sex Hormones By the end of the lesson you should be able to: 1. Say 2 effects of female sex hormones, and say where the hormones are made. 2. Describe.
Menstruation IF fertilization does NOT take place Menstrual cycle – a series of changes controlled by hormones that help prepare the female uterus for.

Do Now Have you completed both week 1 and week 2 of the health class? Time: 2 minutes

Agenda Do Now - Health Class Homework Reminder Part 0 – Lab Pre-reading (8 minutes) Part A – Graphing (20 minutes) Part B – Female Diagram (5 minutes) Part C – Staple Homework (5 minute) Part D – Conclusion Questions (15 minutes) Close out

Part 0 Go to lab 21 – Stages of Human Menstrual Cycle Read page 1 of 15 and answer the questions in your guided notes Time to complete Questions 1-5: 8 minutes Finished? Check your answers with the answer key and staple your homework to the back of the lab.

Part 0 Questions 1. As levels of FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) increases what happens to eggs in the woman’s ovaries?   2. What does high levels of LH (luteinizing hormone) do to the follicles holding the eggs?  3. What does increasing levels of estrogen do? 4. What happens to the level of estrogen if the egg remains unfertilized?    5. How does a decreasing level of estrogen affect the lining of the uterus?

Part A Directions: Using the data from page 3, create 4 graphs on page 5. After you complete each graph, answer the questions on page 8 You are expected to finish graphing AND answering the Graph conclusion questions in the next 20 minutes

Part B Directions: Complete the diagram on page 6 If you need help, go back to your notes on female reproductive system Time to complete: 5 minutes

Part C Part C was your homework from last night. Make sure you staple to back of lab. Failure to complete last night’s homework is an automatic -10 points on the lab.

Part D Directions: Answer questions 5-13. If you get stuck, go back to page 1, back to your notes from yesterday or ask a friend. You will have 15 minutes to complete

Discussion Questions Based on part 0, how do hormones affect the menstrual cycle. Pick one hormone and explain how increases or decreases in that hormone affect menstruation. Based on Part C, how does the body react when there is fertilization vs when there isn’t fertilization? Why?

Finish Early? Go on the class website and complete the Teacher Survey.
