Commencement If you have failed any courses, you should consider summer school for this summer - All graduation requirements must be fulfilled by the end of June in your grade 12 school year in order for you to graduate on time and participate in the ceremony - Summer school after your grade 12 year will not be an option to make up any missed credits and graduate with your class

Course Selection Process Step 1 Check OSSD requirements by referring to your Status Sheet. Step 2 Research future goals and prerequisites. Step 3 Complete on-line IPP, course selection, print Sign-off Sheet, return it to Guidance.

OSSD Requirements 30 credits (110 hours each) - 18 compulsory credits - 12 optional credits 40 hours of community involvement Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test

Important Notes Check your status sheet carefully in order to ensure that you are choosing courses in Gr. 11 that fulfill all your remaining compulsory courses except Grade 12 English! Consider your work habits and destination when choosing your courses Consider your academic strengths, learning skills and past academic achievement

Failed a compulsory course in Grade 10? You must add it as one of your course selections for next year. Planning on summer school? Add it to your course selections Sign up for summer school in May. If you successfully complete a failed course at summer school your timetable will be adjusted accordingly, if necessary.

PATHWAYS Summer school courses (if available) are required to change from Gr. 10 Applied to Gr. 11 University stream Universities and colleges will see all of your grade 11 marks for admission purposes

COOPERATIVE EDUCATION You MUST have a good attendance record. Select CWE 2O9 Complete a separate application form found in guidance. Applying for co-op does not necessarily guarantee a placement/acceptance into the program All applicants will be interviewed. Co-op is a 2 credit program and counts as 2 course selections. Co-op credits are not considered in college or university admission decisions

PEER HELPING You MUST have at least 16 credits and a good academic record. - assume the program DOES NOT exist and select 8 other courses. - complete a separate application form available in guidance. - applicants will be interviewed before they are accepted into the program. - Peer Helping credits are not considered in college or university admission decisions

Other Course Information Yearbook courses – you can choose to take one or both of the yearbook courses offered: TGG3M1 and TGG4M1 These two courses will run in opposite semesters

e-Learning Options There will be a great variety of both compulsory and optional e-Learning courses offered for the next school year If you feel that e-Learning would be a good option for you based on your learning skills, click on eLearning under course disciplines to see available courses

E-Learning Options If you sign up for an eLearning course, you must also complete an eLearning application, found in guidance Other eLearning courses might also become available later in the semester

Choosing Courses The Course Calendar is available by clicking the blue book icon found at the top right of your screen.

Start by picking your compulsory courses. Click on a box to get a listing of courses to choose from that discipline

Choose the Correct Type Click on the appropriate course

Viewing and Adding a Course Course Description Pathways Click on “Add Courses” to select this course

Choose Elective Courses Click on one of the white “Elective” boxes.

Choose Elective Courses New courses for 2019/20: AMG3M1 – Music, Guitar IDC3O1 – Yoga PAF3O3 – Fitness (Male) PAF3O4 – Fitness (Female) TDJ3O4 – Women in the Trades (Female)

Choose Elective Courses by Grade or Discipline.

Check any Warnings or Notes Please be aware of any important notes for courses that you choose. Hover your cursor over the blue or red circle to read the note.

Choose an Alternate Course Students must select an alternate course. This course will be used if one of your chosen elective courses is unable to be scheduled.

Summer School If you plan on attending summer school in June, click on the “Summer School” option at the bottom of your selections. Note: Not all courses are available in summer school. Typically, compulsory courses are the only courses offered in the summer

Summer School If you choose to do a compulsory gr. 11 course in summer school, you will need to add another elective course to your selections.

It is your responsibility to sign up for summer school in May/June Your summer school selection will NOT be on your schedule for next year. It is your responsibility to sign up for summer school in May/June

Submit Your Courses Click on “Submit” once you have completed all of your selections and reviewed your choices with your parent/guardian. Once you “submit” your courses you cannot go back in to change selections. We will meet with all students who submit their courses in April/May to review your selections.

Choose your courses wisely If you are unsure of a course, ask a teacher from that subject area what is taught in that course!

Print the “Course Request Sign-off Sheet,” get it signed and return it to Guidance.

No internet access at home? The school library is available before school, at lunch and after school Monday to Thursday.

Course selections must be completed and submitted on-line by: Monday, February 25th. Hand in the “Sign-off Sheet” to the Guidance office by the end of that week.
