2 Commencement - All graduation requirements must be fulfilled by the end of June in your grade 12 school year in order for you to graduate on time and participate in next year’s commencement - Summer school after your grade 12 year will not be an option to make up a missed credit and graduate with your class

3 Course Selection Process
Step 1 Check OSSD requirements by referring to your Status Sheet Step 2 Research future goals and prerequisites Step 3 Complete on-line IPP and course selection, print Sign-off Sheet, return it to Guidance

4 OSSD Requirements 30 credits (110 hours each) - 18 compulsory credits
- 12 optional credits 40 hours of community involvement Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test

8 Streaming Model for Grades 11 and 12
Workplace College University/ University Designed for students planning to enter the workplace directly after high school. Designed to prepare students for entrance to most college and apprenticeship programs following high school. Designed to prepare students for entrance to university programs following high school. “E” “C” “M” “U” A minimum of six grade 12 “U” or “M” courses are required for university (including ENG4U1).

15 Failed a compulsory course in Grade 11?
Add it as a course selection for next year. Planning on summer school? Add it to your course selections Sign up for summer school in May. If you successfully complete a failed course at summer school your timetable will be adjusted, if necessary. Some university programs penalize repeated courses in their admissions Some University of Waterloo programs consider where you did your courses

16 CHANGING PATHWAYS Only select courses that you will have the prerequisites for by the end of June Summer school courses (if available) are required to change from Gr. 11 college to Gr. 12 university stream – see Guidance

17 SELECTING MATH COURSES
MEL4E1 - Prerequisite - MEL3E1 MAP4C1 - Prerequisite - MBF3C1 MDM4U1 - Prerequisite - MCR3U1 or MCF3M1 MHF4U1 - Prerequisite - MCR3U1 MCV4U1 - Prerequisite - MCR3U1 (you also need to have successfully taken, or be concurrently enrolled in MHF4U1 to take MCV4U1)

18 COOPERATIVE EDUCATION
You MUST have a good attendance record Select CWE2O9 Complete a separate application form found in Guidance Applying for co-op does not necessarily guarantee a placement/acceptance into the program All applicants will be interviewed Co-op is a 2 credit program and counts as 2 course selections Co-op credits are not considered in college or university admission decisions

19 Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program
OYAP is a Gr.12 four credit program that is scheduled in second semester You must have at least 16 credits to be eligible Automotive, Child Development Practitioner, Cook, Electrician, Carpenter, Plumber, Welder, Industrial Mechanic Millwright, Hairstylist Select CWE2O9 Complete a co-op application form All applicants will be interviewed.

20 PEER HELPING You MUST have at least 16 credits and a good academic record - assume the program DOES NOT exist and select 8 other courses - complete a separate application form available in Guidance - applicants will be interviewed before being accepted into the program - Peer Helping credits are not considered in college or university admission decisions

PAL4O1 – Adaptive Phys. Ed. – Requires an application that is available in Guidance New Courses PAF4O3 – Fitness – Male PAF4O4 – Fitness – Female PPL4O3 – Sports – Male PPL4O4 – Sports – Female TTJ4C1 – Transportation Technology (1 Credit)

22 Earn 2 high school credits and a college credit
Dual Credit Course Earn 2 high school credits and a college credit TTJ4C2 - Transportation Technology This course will take up two periods in your schedule

23 Other Course Information
Yearbook courses – you can choose to take one or both of the yearbook courses offered: TGG3M1 and TGG4M1 These two courses will run in opposite semesters

24 E-Learning Options There will be a great variety of both compulsory and optional e-Learning courses offered for the next school year If you feel that e-Learning would be a good option for you based on your learning skills, click on eLearning under course disciplines to see available courses

25 E-Learning Options If you sign up for an eLearning course, you must also complete an eLearning application, found in guidance Other eLearning courses might also become available later in the semester

30 Completing your Individual Pathways Plan
If you have previously completed a section of your IPP - simply click on that section, review it and check off “I have reflected on this section of My IPP and have confirmed that it is up to date”.

“Career Matchmaker” Answer a series of questions in order to create a list of careers that may be of interest to you based on your likes and dislikes.

All completed volunteer hours need to be recorded on the Community Involvement Activities’ form and handed in to guidance.

35 Completing your Course Selections
After completing your IPP click on “Course Plan Grade 12”.

36 Choosing Courses The Course Calendar is available by clicking the blue book icon found at the top right of the screen.

37 Start by picking your compulsory course.
Click on the box to get a listing of courses to choose from that discipline.

Click on the appropriate course

39 Viewing and Adding a Course
Pathways Course Description Click on “Add Courses” to select this course.

40 Choosing Elective Courses
Click on one of the white “Elective” boxes.

41 Choose Courses by Grade or Discipline.

42 Choose an Elective by clicking on the course, reading the description and then click on “Add Courses”.

43 Students must select an alternate course.
Choose an Alternate Course Students must select an alternate course. This course will be used if one of your chosen elective courses is unable to be scheduled.

44 Summer School If you plan on attending summer school in June, click on the “Summer School” option at the bottom of your selections. Note: Not all courses are available in summer school. Typically, compulsory courses are the only courses offered in the summer

45 Summer School If you choose to do a compulsory course in summer school, you will need to add another elective course to your selections.

46 It is your responsibility to sign up for summer school in May/June
Your summer school selection will NOT be on your schedule for next year. It is your responsibility to sign up for summer school in May/June

47 Study Periods Click on an “Elective” box in your course planner, select “12th Grade Study Periods” in the drop down menu.

48 Study Periods Students are eligible for 1 study period providing they have at least 24 credits by the beginning of the next school year.

49 Study Periods Students are eligible for 2 study periods providing they have at least 24 credits by the end of the current school year and are taking 6 Grade 12 “U” or “M” courses.

50 Study Periods Want two study periods, but do not meet the previous criteria? Choose one study Come in to guidance and fill out a form to apply for a second study period

51 Submit Your Courses. Click on “Submit” once you have completed all of your selections and reviewed these with your parent/guardian. Once you “submit” your courses you cannot go back in to change selections. We will meet with all students who submit their courses in April/May to review your selections.

52 Choose your courses wisely
If you are unsure of a course, ask a teacher from that subject area what is taught in that course!

53 Print the “Course Request Sign-off Sheet,” get it signed and hand it in to Guidance.

54 No internet access at home?
The school library is available before school, at lunch and after school Monday to Thursday.

55 Course selections must be completed and submitted on-line by: Monday, February 25th.
Hand in the “Sign-off Sheet” to the Guidance office by the end of that week.
