1 Course Selection Information
What Grade 10 students need to know…

2 What do students need to graduate?
To obtain your Ontario Secondary Schools Diploma (OSSD), students must: Successfully pass 30 credits (18 compulsory and 12 electives) Complete the Provincial Literacy Requirement 3) Complete 40 hours of Community Service

3 What courses are compulsory?
4 credits in English (1 credit per grade)* 3 credits in mathematics (1 credit in Grade 11 or 12) 2 credits in science 1 credit in Canadian history 1 credit in Canadian geography 1 credit in the arts 1 credit in health and physical education 1 credit in French as a second language 0.5 credit in career studies 0.5 credit in civics

4 Plus one credit from each of the following groups:
GROUP 1: additional credit in English, or French as a second language,** or a Native language, or a classical or an international language, or social sciences and the humanities, or Canadian and world studies, or guidance and career education, or cooperative education*** GROUP 2: additional credit in health and physical education, or the arts, or business studies, or French as a second language,** or cooperative education*** GROUP 3: additional credit in science (Grade 11 or 12), or technological education, or French as a second language,** or computer studies, or cooperative education***

5 What courses will I need in grade 11?
English (college, workplace, university) Religion (open, university/college) Math (college, workplace, university, university/college) Plus 5 Elective courses (are you on track to complete your groups 1,2 and 3 credits?)

6 If co-op is chosen….. You will need to complete a co-op application form and distribute 2 green teacher reference forms to teachers (available in Guidance). Co-op applications are due when course selections are due. They are to be handed into Guidance with course selection options. Co-op candidates that complete their paperwork will then be interviewed by a co-op teacher at a later date.

7 If you are choosing Co-op for next year, please consider signing up for Specialist High Skills Major to help you with your pathway planning. See Guidance for more information. Earn a Red Seal on your diploma at graduation!

8 Your choices should consider the following:
Post secondary course pre-requisites. Be sure to do research on your pathway (workplace, university, apprenticeship, college). My level of study should be based on success in previous courses, recommendations from teachers and pathway considerations. Have I missed any grade 10 required credits? Will I be going to summer school? (You can take 2 make up credits or 1 new credit in the month of July)

13 STEP 2: From the Dashboard, click on View Courses

14 STEP 3: Add courses to your High School Plan
STEP 3: Add courses to your High School Plan. Click on + Course to select from courses at your school. Note for counsellors: Compulsory courses are indicated by + Subject (ie. + English) Boxes for elective courses are indicated by + Course

15 STEP 4: Click on Review Course Selections to review your chosen courses

16 STEP 5: Click Submit Course Selections to submit courses to your school
Scroll to the bottom to add comments Note for Counsellors: You may have enabled additional fields such as Student Comments, or Pathway of Interest. If so, students will find these options here.

17 STEP 6: Click Print Sign-Off Sheet
Note for counsellors: You can disable the sign off sheet under Configure Course Selection settings in your account. If so, you can remove this slide.

20 Course Selections must be completed by:
Have your parent/guardian sign your sheet and return it to your teacher. Course Selections must be completed by: Friday March 1st
